LUGGAGE INFORMATION PAGE

Are you hiking rim to rim and need to get your luggage to the other side of the canyon? We offer luggage service from both sides of the Grand Canyon with drop-off and pick-up locations at the following lodges:

Luggage service is provided between the following points:

  • North Rim Grand Canyon Lodge
  • North Rim Kaibab Lodge (outside the park)
  • South Rim Bright Angel Lodge


It is best to make your reservation in advance as TransCanyon has a limited amount of shuttle space available for luggage transport. 

After making your reservation and arriving at the Grand Canyon, obtain a TransCanyon BAG TAG at your drop-off point:

  • Mule desk at the North Rim Lodge
  • Kaibab Lodge front desk
  • Front desk (or bellman) at Bright Angel Lodge

If your bag is making a round trip, you need to obtain a new reservation number for the return trip and a new color-coded tag. The tag colors and information you write on the luggage tag indicate where your luggage will be dropped off.


When filling out your luggage tag, please be aware of the following: 

  • The name on the tag MUST MATCH the name used for the reservation. 
  • Your reservation number needs to be included on the luggage tag.
  • The luggage weight limit on bags is 22-pounds. A scale will be provided at the drop-off location so you can ensure a proper weight. 


Please be advised that the TransCanyon luggage handler will weigh your bag before it is loaded and write the weight on the bag tag. Luggage will be priced and charged according to weight:

  • Standard Fare: luggage weighing 22-pounds or less 
  • $15 Additional Charge: luggage weighing 23 - 30 pounds
  • $30 Additional Charge: luggage weighing 31 - 40 pounds
  • $50 Additional Charge: luggage weighing 41 - 50 pounds
  • $100 Additional Charge: luggage weighing 51 - 75 pounds


Luggage over 75 pounds cannot be transported.

Trans-Canyon Shuttle Luggage Cancellation Policy


  • Cancellations up to 48 hours prior to a booked luggage reservation date will receive a full refund, less a $10 service fee per piece of luggage.
  • Cancellations of the reservation within 48 hours of a booked luggage reservation date receive no refund.


In the event of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, customers will receive a full refund or credit.


Luggage Change-of-Reservation Date Policy


A customer may change the reservation date for luggage one or two times without incurring any additional charges. However, at the third and subsequent changes, a $10 fee will be assessed per reservation date change for all the luggage included on the reservation.

Special Notice about the North Rim Grand Canyon Lodge Luggage Station:


Please be aware that if you need your luggage transported to or from the North Rim’s Grand Canyon Lodge, your bag will be kept behind the Mule Desk in the North Rim Lodge lobby. The Mule Desk is not continually staffed 24 hours a day. This means your luggage will be unattended at times. We recommend you leave/pick-up the bag as close to shuttle departure/arrival as possible as we cannot be responsible for any loss or damage.

Please be aware that the Bright Angel Lodge luggage staff is available from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. Luggage dropped-off or picked-up outside of these hours is not guaranteed by the Bright Angel Lodge.
